The gates provide security to the community. Our gates are managed by a volunteer, which is a truly great service to Water Gardens. Fortunately, gatekeeping does not have a high learning curve, and is perfect for a resident.
Here is what the Gatekeeping volunteer does for Water Gardens:
Uses Windows "Remote Desktop Connection" to remote into the Windows computer in the Community Center to administer it. This can be done with either a PC or an Apple computer.
Maintains the "DoorKing" database on the gates, updating by adding new residents and removing old ones.
Purchases and issues gate remotes, and posts codes to the "DoorKing" database on the gates.
Routinely schedules the dates to be open for Private Parties, and for Open House events when houses are for sale, and for any other community events.
While preferring a few days advance notice, the gates can be opened with 5 minutes notice on occasions as requested.
Does all this for free as a volunteer.
Here is what Water Gardens avoids by having a volunteer. This is what would happen if we used Automated Gates to control our gates.
Charge $500/month for the service (volunteers are free)
Require 3 week days advance notice for every gate opening (volunteers can open gates in 5 minutes, 24/7)
Water Gardens volunteer still required!!!!
Someone at Water Gardens would be tasked with communicating all DoorKing database changes to Automated Gates.
This in effect means they need to maintain a gate-oriented database themselves, to keep track of changes.
Since we have to do all that effort anyway, it is just as easy to update the database ourselves.
